Plug-in Vehicles Scheme 2012
This scheme is regulated by Government Notice.
This scheme applies solely on the purchase of new electric powered vehicles for personal use that derives its motive power exclusively from an electric motor, which vehicle has never been registered in any country and which vehicle meets the following criteria
| Criteria type | Explanation |
| Vehicle type | Only new cars are eligible (vehicle category ‘M1’). |
| Carbon dioxide exhaust emissions | Vehicles must emit less than 75 grams of carbon dioxide (CO2) per kilometre driven. |
| Range | Electric vehicles (EVs) must be able to travel a minimum of 70 miles between charges. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) must have a minimum electric range of 10 miles. |
| Minimum top speed | Vehicles must be able to reach a speed of 60 miles per hour or more |
| Warranty | Vehicles must have: · a 3-year or 60,000-miles vehicle warranty (guarantee) · a 3-year battery and electric drive train warranty, with the option of extending the battery warranty for an extra 2 years ‘Drive train’ means the parts that send power from the engine to the wheels. | Battery performance | Vehicles must have: · either a minimum 5-year warranty on the battery and electric drive train as standard · or extra evidence of battery performance to show reasonable performance after 3 years of use |
Applicants may apply for a grant of 25% up to €4000 on the purchase price of the vehicle.
Part A of the application/s for the grant which must be filled in by the Applicant PRIOR to the purchase of the technology and must be accompanied by the relevant Annex I and Annex II (detailed quotation from supplier) to part A.
Part B is the request for reimbursement which must be completed by the Applicant AFTER the purchase (including payment, installation and commissioning of the equipment).

Request for Review
Any request for review should be submitted to the Authority within one month from the date of the rejection letter. Their request will be assessed by the Review Committee. Procedures and guidelines to present such a request may be found on the following links:
