Domestic Cisterns Restoration (wells) Scheme 2013-2018
This scheme is operated by the Regulator for Energy and Water Services to further encourage the harvesting and use of rainwater in the domestic sector. Eligible expenditure includes repairs of cisterns (wells or bjar) and installation of second class water systems. The scheme is funded through national funds, and applies to private individuals for use on their residential properties, and for organizations that do not fall within the concept of ‘undertaking’ for use on communal residences.
Applicants need to apply prior to purchasing the eligible systems.
This scheme is regulated by government notice GN1020-2013. Applications will be received as from the 22 October 2013.
- The scheme was extended to the 31 December 2014 by government notice GN 1140 of 2013.
- The scheme was further extended to the 31 December 2015 by government notice GN 1297 of 2014.
- The scheme was further extended to the 31 December 2016 by government notice GN 1274 of 2015
- The scheme was further extended to the 31st December 2017 by government notice GN 1428 of 2016
- The scheme was further extended to the 31st December 2018 by government notice GN1440 of 2017
Part A of the application for the grant must be filled in by the Applicant PRIOR to the restoration works and must be accompanied by the relevant supporting documentation.
Part B is the request for reimbursement and must be completed by the Applicant AFTER the restoration works have been carried out (including payment and certification of works).

Request for Review
Any request for review should be submitted to the Regulator for Energy and Water Services within one month from the date of the rejection letter. Their request will be assessed by the Review Committee.
