2024 Reverse Osmosis (RO) Scheme (Purchase of Water Purifying Equipment)
The Water Purification scheme is administered by the Regulator for Energy and Water Services to reduce the use of plastic containers utilised for bottling water, by reverse osmosis, reverse osmosis with reject water return and water filtration system. This scheme is funded through national funds and applies to private individuals (natural persons) for use on their residential properties, and for organisations that are not carrying out an economic activity.
This scheme was launched by means of Government Notice 484 of 2024.
Prospective applicants are invited to refer to the Guidelines to Applicants which have been prepared to assist applicants to complete the application form for a grant on Water Purification.
Applicant must complete the application with their personal details. Application must be completed and submitted to the REWS after the purchase and installation of the equipment.
Upon installation of the equipment, applicants are required to submit the application together with the necessary supporting documentation.
2024 Water Purification Scheme
- Application to be completed, within six (6) months from the purchase of the equipment. Launch Online Application
- Details of Identity Card or Residence Document;
- Handwritten signature of applicant required on the application form;
- Complete electricity bill for the project location issued in the last 12 months. The Consumer Scheme must either be ‘Residential’ or ‘Domestic’.
- Copy of the Identity Card or Residence Document of the applicant;
- Copy of the Water and Electricity bill issued by ARMS Ltd for the project location, in the name of the applicant;
- Copy of lease contract of the property where equipment has been installed (if applicable);
- Copy of Fiscal receipts issued in the name of the applicat (Note that a supporting invoice is required if fiscal receipt includes no reference to items bought / service received);
- Originally Signed or Digitally Signed application form.

No specific period for processing of applications is established at law. Generally, an application is determined by the Regulator within five (5) weeks upon submission of a complete application form.
The applicant has a six (6) month period from the date of issue of fiscal receipt (covering the RO cost) and to submit the application and the related supporting documentation.
In general, the Maltese Administrative Law establishes that in the absence of a reply this is construed to be tantamount to a refusal and the applicant has a right to appeal.
Any decision taken by the Regulator, including refusal of an application for or withdrawal of an authorisation or a licence, may be subject to appeal before the Review Committee and any other means of redress as established by the Law.
